One of the most controversial movies in history, Padmaavat is a touching tale of romance and has been shrouded in controversy and protests since its release. After facing innumerable problems from the audience, due to copyright issues and controversies regarding harassment of Rajput women starring in the movie which made Deepika Padukone cancel her press conference ahead of its release, Padmaavat finally managed to find a way to overcome all hurdles and was released on January 25th after nearly four months. The movie amassed over Rs 600 crores at the box office with 2.85 crores which was about 62% more than expected. This movie has created a new record for having successfully crossed the gate of 600 crores at the box office. Padmaavat is a historic movie and it has been released after a long time. It was the first time when the controversial topic of Sati/Sikh relationship was focused on. It revolves around the love story between Rani Padmavati, Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji who fell in love with her. The Hindi version of Padmaavat was produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Navketan Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd and Yash Raj Films Limited whereas, the Tamil version of it is produced by Sri Thenandal Films Ltd. "Padmaavat" is based on the epic poem Padmavat written in 1567 and the mythological Ramayana. The screenplay of this movie has been written by Sanjay Singh and Kausar Munir, while director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has also received script credits for this movie. The trailer of the Hindi version of Padmaavat was released on 17 January 2018. The first look poster of the movie was released on 8 January 2018. The teaser trailer of the movie was released on 10 January 2018. The trailer of the Tamil version of Padmaavat was released on 18 January 2018. The songs of the movie are composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali whereas lyrics have been penned by A. M. Turaz, Danish Nisar, Mehboob and Kausar Munir. The music rights for this movie is acquired by T-Series. Taran Adarsh rated 3.5 out of 5 saying "There's no denying the fact that the film is a visual marvel with its rich production values and grandeur in terms of scale and setting... Padmaavat has the makings of an epic film". Rachit Gupta of Filmfare gave it 4 stars out of 5 saying "A tumultuously beautiful watch which is unlike anything you've ever seen before. Ranveer Singh's portrayal of Allauddin Khilji is brilliant, exceeding even his gangsterish Kabir Khan avatar".
